Two Scientific Leaders, With Different Investment Profiles
The two highest-scoring XPRIZE teams finished close scientifically, but neither qualifies for EverLife's Research Tracker today.
That sounds like a close contest between similar companies. It is not.
One leader is testing living cells from young donors and has controlled human evidence connected to physical function. The other is built around mitochondrial biology and has a medicine already approved for a rare disease.
One leads because of what has been measured in people. The other leads because its drug platform and biological pathway are more mature than most longevity programs.
A third team leads a different category: repeated lifespan evidence in normal mammals. Another offers an approach that may be easier for people to access but is harder to study cleanly.
There is therefore no honest single answer to “Which team is best?”
The useful questions are more precise.
Which has the strongest evidence in people? Which has the strongest connection to lifespan biology? Which has the most mature path toward a regulated medicine? And which company has enough ownership, financing, and control to reach the next test?
The leader changes when the question changes.
That is why the ranking begins with evidence rather than excitement.
The Five Questions I Would Ask First
The complete EverLife framework contains 25 gates. But most of the ranking can be understood by starting with five plain questions.
Has It Helped A Person Yet?
A change in a mouse, a cell, or a blood marker can be interesting. A meaningful improvement in a controlled human study is much harder to dismiss.
I want to know whether people moved better, thought more clearly, recovered faster, or showed a stronger response to illness.
Was The Test Designed To Catch Wishful Thinking?
Small studies can look impressive by accident. So can studies without a placebo group.
Randomization, blinding, enough participants, and clearly chosen outcomes make it harder for hope or selective reporting to create the result.
This does not guarantee the answer is correct. It makes the answer more believable.
Can The Company Reach The Next Test?
Even excellent science can stop if a company runs out of money.
Clinical trials, manufacturing, regulatory work, and specialized staff are expensive. A company needs enough capital or a strong partner to reach the milestone that could prove its idea.
Does The Company Own What Matters?
A promising university discovery is not automatically a valuable company asset.
We need to know who owns the patents, who controls the drug, and whether the company has the commercial rights it needs.
What Result Would Change My Mind?
Every research thesis should have a clear next test.
If we cannot say what would make the idea stronger or weaker, we are following a story rather than evaluating evidence.
Why A Single Score Is Not The Whole Answer
EverLife scores each team from 1 to 5 across the same 25 questions.
A higher score means more of the important pieces can be verified: human evidence, leadership, financing, ownership, manufacturing, regulatory progress, and a clear next milestone.
It does not mean a company is guaranteed to succeed. It does not predict investment return. It does not mean shares are available.
Think of the score as a measure of how ready the opportunity is for serious research. Classification adds a second test: whether the present ownership-adjusted value leaves enough room for the risk. EverLife requires a credible 10x win case for Scout and 15x for Tracker. Those are screening hurdles, not forecasts.
A score near 4 means there is meaningful evidence and a visible development path, but important risks remain. A score near 3 means the idea deserves attention while major proof is still missing.
The Result That Surprised Me
The top two teams finished close on the scientific and company evidence.
Yet they are not similar.
One is a public company using living cells from young donors. The other has a mitochondrial drug that has already reached FDA approval for a rare disease.
The next two take very different paths again: one targets the protein responsible for a rare premature-aging condition, and one combines existing medicines and lifestyle support.
This is useful because it shows how early the field remains. We are not choosing between four versions of the same treatment. We are watching four different ideas about what part of aging matters most.
I have kept the explanation above open so any reader can understand how I approach the ranking.
