Could menstrual biotech create financial value and help people live longer, healthier lives? This week, we will use it to practice the first question in our company-evaluation framework: “Is there a credible longevity opportunity worth more of our time?”

Core lesson: About 8 min. of reading. Allow extra time to write your answers. Optional bonus practice and a preliminary research worksheet follow.

In Understanding Menstrual-Derived Cells, we explored stromal cells collected from menstrual fluid and the substances they release. Here, we ask what the companies working with them could build, and whether that fits our purpose.

Evaluating The Business Opportunity

The field includes skincare ingredients, research materials and potential therapies. Related businesses work with menstrual-sample data or cell storage. They have different ways to earn revenue, and different connections to longer, healthier lives. Our first task is to identify that connection before diving into every detail of the business.

Why I Look For A Dual Return

I want financial potential and a meaningful contribution to longer, healthier lives. Could the technology add healthy years for someone already avoiding smoking, exercising, eating well and optimizing their lifestyle? That could matter to humanity and, potentially, to us and the people we love. Neither financial returns nor personal health benefits are assured.

We start with the first stop rule within the 25 criteria. Criterion 1, lifespan relevance, also acts as Hard Gate 1. If it lacks a credible case, stop before scoring the whole company.

Let’s Evaluate Lifespan Relevance Together

We will start with businesses developing menstrual-derived stromal cells or the substances they release, and distinguish them from related data and storage businesses.

You will assess MenSC Labs using a short evidence summary, answer three questions, then compare your reasoning with mine. The skill is deciding whether a company deserves deeper research or belongs on a Watchlist until a specific question is answered.
