I Learned This From Selling Part Of My Company

When I sold the servicing operations of CuraDebt earlier this year, some might say I got lucky. I built that business over 24 years without thinking deliberately about who the eventual buyer would be or what they specifically needed. The deal worked. The L-45 filter runs in parallel. It asks: if this science translated to humans, would it matter for a healthy person in their 40s or 50s focused on extending healthspan? Not a disease treatment for someone already sick. A mechanism that addresses biological aging itself. Something that would show up in biomarkers. Something personal.

When a mechanism satisfies both filters - clear potential industry relevance and genuine L-45 relevance - that overlap is where the dual interest of this publication lives. Sector progression that may lead to commercial outcomes for the underlying companies, and mechanisms that may extend personal healthspan if they translate. Whether both happen in any specific case is unknown. The overlap is where the scientific and commercial questions become especially interesting.

Some of that works. A lot of it does not. Most early-stage programs ultimately fail, though a small number eventually become commercially significant.

Whether any specific mechanism translates to either outcome is unknown. Most early-stage biology does not. The few mechanisms that ultimately succeed often appear more understandable in retrospect. The challenge is evaluating them carefully while the science is still developing.
